Re: purge !
Tue, November 15, 2005 - 1:36 PMI try to maintain the one-in/one-out policy. Sort of.
But then, that has made for some awful Sophie's Choice kind of cardigan moments. The black or the charcoal? The black or the charcoal? For the love of god and sweater, choose the black or the charcoal to survive, woman....
Paul has come into my dressing room, only to find me on hands and knees gripping the sweaters, in the throes of purge choices. A mother's love, a fashionista's decisions...

Tue, November 15, 2005 - 3:15 PMI wear things to death so I find it best to go through every six months with have I worn it in the last 6 months, will I wear it in the next 6 months. Does it need to be burned, does it need to be donated -

Re: purge !
Tue, November 15, 2005 - 6:11 PMIf I haven't worn it in a year, I save it for another year, then I get rid of it.
I have tried, say for the last three years, to be really concious of what I am buying, to not duplicate the same piece over and over, and to try for quality over quantity.
I hate getting rid of clothes.
It truly is a Sophie's Choice moment. It's like, I made that little piece of clothing I promise, that it was home, and I had liked it enough to put out money for it. And then I'm going to turn around and say "I've out grown you?" -

Tue, November 15, 2005 - 7:40 PMAnd, if I have actually... outgrown... the item, I also have to turn 'round and have a stern discussion with my posterior. -

Re: purge !
Wed, November 16, 2005 - 9:14 AMhaving recently decided i need to *ahem* get rid of a few things before i shack up... i'm almost at a loss. i feel this overwhelming urge to just junk everything.
i took some stuff up to buffalo, and the next haul i think is going to charity... right now i'm at 7 trash bags, and it feels so liberating, i'm thinking i've got another 2 (at least, i haven't even touched my dressers, yes, that's plural) to go.
i'm with rubia on the quality/quantity notion... when you can get rid of 3 grey sweaters (my argument was that they were light heather, heather, and charcoal) and cardigans at that... it might be time to assess how i shop. i'm turning over a new leaf.... but pix if you want to ditch your grey sweater... i've still got two more if you ever need to borrow one. : ) -

Wed, November 16, 2005 - 10:58 AMHehe - when we were looking for a place to rent, he was looking in Fremont and Ballard, I was looking in Greenlake and Ravenna. To make it easier, for our last move, I just bought the darn house and said, "So, are you coming, darling? The location has been decided." It's a super good trick to ensure you win the location battle... :)
Weeee - this is nice news. I like shiny, happy, couple news.
