boots with jeans

I recently bought a yummy paid of tan suede lace up boots with faux fur trim. i >heart< them almost more than life itself and get tons of compliments on them. I also get compliments on my legs when i wear them with a miniskirt...so i've rediscovered my legs. I mostly end up wearing the boots with long skirts and sometimes get sick of wearing skirts. I have been hesitant to wear these boots with pants or jeans because i'm afraid that boots-over-jeans is just too...um,....80's country singer. Or is it? Has anyone out there successfully worn tall boots with pants or jeans?

Belts - sideways

I've been wearing belts sideways lately. Unlooped, regular belts. The latchy part over my left hip, instead of in front. Generally medium-wide or two-stranded belts.

Too much of a good thing?

I have instituted a pink embargo on my wardrobe buying. When I shop, I have developed a habit of saying to myself,"This looks good in pink!" And now, I am in danger of looking like I raided a 7 year old girl's closet.

I must make myself buy white, tan, and denim. What else could break up my clothes? I also have several items in green, btw.

To my surprise, plaid is not a cliche in Scotland. During my recent backpacking, I noted that it was everywhere. So were thriftstores. *grin* I came home with a backpack LADEN with Scottish plaid. Should I exert moderation? Coffee yesterday in schoolgirl plaid. Work today in business plaid...

Maybe it's just an autumnal thing. Maybe it's just a a former Catholic school girl comfort zone thing. Whatever it is: I like plaid. I'm not ashamed.

The "one" that got away...

I was just thinking today about a pair of shoes that I passed on buying, that now I wish I had gotten...They were pretty turquoise suede Delman ballet flats with "pleats" on the toes. They were a good deal, because they were ar the Rack, but they were still more money than what I felt comfortable spending. And yet I think now I should have done it anyway!

Does this happen to anyone else? Almost-buyers remorse?

Downsizing

I'm not normally a conspiracy theorist, but a certain fashion conspiracy is too overt to ignore. Downsizing. As Americans get bigger, the industry has downsized the sizes - like a currency devaluation. Without telling us. A former '10' or '12' is now a '6'. A proper '6' holds onto a '2'...barely. For a time, I thought I was going crazy or was shrinking. Then, my assistant confirmed it. Neither of us, at 5'9, should ever wear a '0' for anything. But that's where this devaluation sometimes takes us. I was in Nordstrom Rack yesterday and a largish girl, voluptuously built, screamed over to her mother that the '6' fit just perfectly and she had to buy the coat. Why of course you do, dear, that's why the put a '6' tag in a '12' coat. Marketing is genius.

At the end, I don't care what my number is, but marketing mindgames always piss me off... Designer Kam, spill the goods -- you're part of the fashion illuminati.

Hi all,

For me, the best to come out of the recent trends is the cropped, fitted jacket. I've accumulated several in different colors and I love 'em, but especially a denim one I found at Nordstrom's. The jackets go with my skirts and pants alike and I feel instantly dressed up when I wear them. Also, I like how they harken back to the 1947 Dior New Look. Anyone else out there as nutty for the jackets as I am?

i've really been considering wearing neckties. but there seems to be a hinderance to my plan. first- girl dress shirts are lame. i have longer arms... they tend to be too short. and they're not alway fitted... not into the bosy look. and i've notice that one i just bought doesn't have buttons all the way up to the collar... uhm, yeah i got jipped on buttons. but bak to the neckties... what do y'all think... and i'm really thinking like a military look, kind of tucking it into the side of the placket kind of thing, or the shorty kind of tie that i think are vintage.

In a funny side conversation with his spouse, I learned that it's bad luck for husbands and boyfriends to bring new shoes home for the ladies. Note the very fashionable dress that a girlfriend talked me into wearing to a party. Of course, the mutton chops sort of detracted from the look.

Then, there's me in the height of formal wear fashion. At the time, I rarely wore anything but jeans and t-shirts, so it was agony wearing that tux!

I was watching "The Kids Are Alright". What I'd give for Pete Townsend's Union Jack sports coat! Some of that early Who footage is SO funny. But, the clothes were so colorful back then.

Why do most women's jeans now contain a stretch component? I've hunted in vain of late for new jeans made of, gasp, just cotton. A favoured UK manufacturer proudly boasted the following of its jeans when I went to order a new pair online: 86% cotton, 13% polyester, 1% elastane WHAT? WHY?

Please someone, anyone explain this need for stretch. I've seen it "in action" on the female populace and can't identify the appeal.

when you see a straight guy with waxed eyebrows and who's taken more time to get ready in the morning than you have, is it right for you? i can understand "pretty". we all like to see "pretty".

but from fuckerpants point of view---i love me some pretty women who don't put on so much make-up and what not. i've seen 'em "destroy" themselves trying to look better when the natural thing was really goin on for them. is it the same with guys?
