I took mine out last weekend. It was nice. Its an alibaster-white stripe deal I usually sport a white or baby/sky blue shirt under.

I recently bought a yummy paid of tan suede lace up boots with faux fur trim. i >heart< them almost more than life itself and get tons of compliments on them. I also get compliments on my legs when i wear them with a miniskirt...so i've rediscovered my legs. I mostly end up wearing the boots with long skirts and sometimes get sick of wearing skirts. I have been hesitant to wear these boots with pants or jeans because i'm afraid that boots-over-jeans is just too...um,....80's country singer. Or is it? Has anyone out there successfully worn tall boots with pants or jeans?

As I was rifling through my dresser drawers looking for a top, I saw this black wrap top that I bought like 6 years ago. It seemed like a good style, but I just felt odd in it. So I have given up on wrap tops. ALthough I obvioulsy haven't made the leap to giving it away...

Anyone else have a style that is just not right for them?

I've been wearing belts sideways lately. Unlooped, regular belts. The latchy part over my left hip, instead of in front. Generally medium-wide or two-stranded belts.

I have instituted a pink embargo on my wardrobe buying. When I shop, I have developed a habit of saying to myself,"This looks good in pink!" And now, I am in danger of looking like I raided a 7 year old girl's closet.

I must make myself buy white, tan, and denim. What else could break up my clothes? I also have several items in green, btw.

Anyone else stuck on a color?

alright, i love tiaras as much as the next princess wannabe (last count, 5) but i just saw a girl on the street, and then in the elevator ! who has a tiara tattoo that kind of made a band around her arm. i asked if it was a tiara and she assured me it was... i'm jealous of longterm princess wear. i've always wanted a tattoo... what say you fashionistas ??

To my surprise, plaid is not a cliche in Scotland. During my recent backpacking, I noted that it was everywhere. So were thriftstores. *grin* I came home with a backpack LADEN with Scottish plaid. Should I exert moderation? Coffee yesterday in schoolgirl plaid. Work today in business plaid...

Maybe it's just an autumnal thing. Maybe it's just a a former Catholic school girl comfort zone thing. Whatever it is: I like plaid. I'm not ashamed.

I was just thinking today about a pair of shoes that I passed on buying, that now I wish I had gotten...They were pretty turquoise suede Delman ballet flats with "pleats" on the toes. They were a good deal, because they were ar the Rack, but they were still more money than what I felt comfortable spending. And yet I think now I should have done it anyway!

Does this happen to anyone else? Almost-buyers remorse?

Downsizing

I'm not normally a conspiracy theorist, but a certain fashion conspiracy is too overt to ignore. Downsizing. As Americans get bigger, the industry has downsized the sizes - like a currency devaluation. Without telling us. A former '10' or '12' is now a '6'. A proper '6' holds onto a '2'...barely. For a time, I thought I was going crazy or was shrinking. Then, my assistant confirmed it. Neither of us, at 5'9, should ever wear a '0' for anything. But that's where this devaluation sometimes takes us. I was in Nordstrom Rack yesterday and a largish girl, voluptuously built, screamed over to her mother that the '6' fit just perfectly and she had to buy the coat. Why of course you do, dear, that's why the put a '6' tag in a '12' coat. Marketing is genius.

At the end, I don't care what my number is, but marketing mindgames always piss me off... Designer Kam, spill the goods -- you're part of the fashion illuminati.

Is there anything new that you have been getting alot of use out of this summer?

Come to Tandav, after Wazhma's trunk show . . .

I guest list you if you asked me in a fashionable way . . .

Funketabla and Six Degrees Records present Tandav.

What is Tandav?

Tandav is a once a month special-event club night where a band of live musicians and DJs make beautiful booty motivating dance music for you to enjoy.

People dance, people drink, people drink and dance, people lounge, people chill, people bask in the juju.

We produce our own original Seattle Beats and improvise in Indian, Arabic, and African styles over the freshest sounds of India, Arabia, Brazil and elsewhere.

And secretly we rock (hello we are from Seattle get it?)--don't tell anyone! We have been known to mix up Soul Makossa and Bhangra, ie "Mama Se, Mama Sa, Mama Balle Shaba!" And we further! Taking Seattle's grunge icons Nirvana into the heavily funky beats of West African Juju music.

Yes, we are open-hearted and innovative like that.

Plus we will be giving away free music from Six Degrees Records.

Musicians and DJs:

Shri Deepayan
Shri Gringo Starr
Shri James

Cover is $5, show gets going around 9:45 and goes til 2am

Tost is a smokeless bar, with a patio out back for smokin' and loungin' in the summer air.
Tost is at 513 N. 36th in Fremont.

I am a performer (stage and street) with a very unique style... I am mixing modern illusion, magic / magik & spirituality with arcane ritual, spellcraft and ancient ways.

I am desperatly in need of some alternative fashion adivce from someone with an eye for the creative...

If you have the time and are up to the challange of helping to design a style and aesthetic to match my performance for a small budget (I have the resources to sew whatever I need when possible and have tons of second hand stores around) please get in touch with me by a priv. message. I dont have money to pay you however I do have several barter ideas we could discuss.

Please get in touch as soon as possible and provide an idea of what you have worked on in the past or maybe include an initial vision of what you see based on my description. Thanks!

shortly before the fall of feudal japan, the men and women's clothing became so indistiguishable that it was difficult to determine what was men's and women's clothing.

that being said, i love prada's new line of man skirts! i could so rock the skirt thing. and i'll bring back my black cowboy hat of my youth (estalk fp pics for reference)

Hi all,

For me, the best to come out of the recent trends is the cropped, fitted jacket. I've accumulated several in different colors and I love 'em, but especially a denim one I found at Nordstrom's. The jackets go with my skirts and pants alike and I feel instantly dressed up when I wear them. Also, I like how they harken back to the 1947 Dior New Look. Anyone else out there as nutty for the jackets as I am?

great to be 30 !

i'll be hitting the 30 mark soon, and i'm uber excited... my cousin just sent me this, and i thought i'd share.... not necessarily fashion, but all about how you work it !

This is for all you girls nearing 30 or are over 30...AND for guys
who are scared of girls over 30!!!!...This was written by Andy Rooney
from CBS 60 Minutes.
Andy Rooney says:
As I grow in age, I value women who are over 30 most of all. Here are
just a few reasons why:
A woman over 30 will never wake you in the middle of the night to ask,
"What are you thinking?" She doesn't care what
you think.
If a woman over 30 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit
around whining about it. She does something she wants to do. And, it's
usually something more interesting.
A woman over 30 knows herself well enough to be assured in who she is,
what she is, what she wants and from whom.
Few women past the age of 30 give a damn what you might think about
her or what she's doing.
Women over 30 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you
at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if
you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you, if they think they
can get
away with it.
Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what
it's like to be unappreciated.
A woman over 30 has the self-assurance to introduce you to her women
friends. A younger woman with a man will often ignore even her best
friend because she doesn't trust the guy with other women.
Women over 30 couldn't care less if you're attracted to her friends
because she knows her friends won't betray her.
Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a
woman over 30. They always know.
A woman over 30 looks good wearing bright red lipstick. This is not
true of younger women.
Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 30 is far sexier than
her younger counterpart.
Older women are forthright and honest. They'll tell you right off if
you are a jerk if you are acting like one! You don't ever have to wonder
where you stand with her.
Yes, we praise women over 30 for a multitude of reasons.
Unfortunately, it's not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart,
well-coiffed hot woman of 30+, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow
pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year-old waitress.
Ladies, I apologize. For all those men who say, "Why buy the cow when
you can get the milk for free".
Here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage,
why? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire Pig, just to
get a little sausage.

girls wearing neckties

i've really been considering wearing neckties. but there seems to be a hinderance to my plan. first- girl dress shirts are lame. i have longer arms... they tend to be too short. and they're not alway fitted... not into the bosy look. and i've notice that one i just bought doesn't have buttons all the way up to the collar... uhm, yeah i got jipped on buttons. but bak to the neckties... what do y'all think... and i'm really thinking like a military look, kind of tucking it into the side of the placket kind of thing, or the shorty kind of tie that i think are vintage.

Okay so I am having a bit of a dilemma... i have gone to 4 clothing trade shows this year and honestly I am tiered of everything... to such an extent that I am wanting to join forces with a few local folks who have talent and start a new line. Anybody know good patern makers, seamstresses and designers. I need to some how balance out the unbelievable amount of lingerie in my shop... or any local designers that want to try out their goods with be fine too... any suggestions

To shoe or not to shoe

I just spent a few hours interviewing a southeast Asian footware designer. In a funny side conversation with his spouse, I learned that it's bad luck for husbands and boyfriends to bring new shoes home for the ladies. Apparently, new shoes are thought to spark extra-marital affairs, unless countered by a corresponding gift of $10. Hmmmm. I got a kick out of this and thought other fashionistas might too...

With the release of "The Dukes of Hazzard", a regurgitation spewing forth this summer.....and being a fan of the "Southern Comfort" style myself, (A collection of cowboy boots, hats, and Iron maiden concert T-shirts to die for)
Is this a male fashion style to breach the knitted skull cap, wrap-around "Ray-Ban", lycra bicycle pant, rip stop hiking coat look thats been hovering around way to long after 6 pm?

And dont bring up the whole "Daisy Duke" look, stick to the subject.....we'll discuss the short, short, short thing...and the leather, armless, midrift,
cavalary top thing in the next post.

Funny old photos

I ran across some old photos of me from the early 70's and I posted a couple.

Note the very fashionable dress that a girlfriend talked me into wearing to a party. Of course, the mutton chops sort of detracted from the look.

Then, there's me in the height of formal wear fashion. At the time, I rarely wore anything but jeans and t-shirts, so it was agony wearing that tux!

I was watching "The Kids Are Alright". What I'd give for Pete Townsend's Union Jack sports coat! Some of that early Who footage is SO funny. But, the clothes were so colorful back then.

Alright, Kam. It's your job to start a designer line of retro Carnaby Street clothes. "Kamaby Street"?

Why do most women's jeans now contain a stretch component? I've hunted in vain of late for new jeans made of, gasp, just cotton. A favoured UK manufacturer proudly boasted the following of its jeans when I went to order a new pair online: 86% cotton, 13% polyester, 1% elastane WHAT? WHY?

Please someone, anyone explain this need for stretch. I've seen it "in action" on the female populace and can't identify the appeal.

but i'd go with the half-cut mini-skirt (where the (her) left-side would be cut away to reveal the 'holster' on her thigh) instead of an all out undie-exposure type deal. and love the feistiness of the mandarin collar too!!

sexy or no?

when you see a straight guy with waxed eyebrows and who's taken more time to get ready in the morning than you have, is it right for you? i can understand "pretty". we all like to see "pretty".

but from fuckerpants point of view---i love me some pretty women who don't put on so much make-up and what not. i've seen 'em "destroy" themselves trying to look better when the natural thing was really goin on for them. is it the same with guys?

are they pretty without the glam? or do you love the glam?

Textile import stores?

My favourite import stores are all in SF. I used to be down there every month but no more....any good ideas for Indian/Nepalese/Turkish import stores in Seattle.
Thanks!

hey whetzel started his own tribe, a very smart, alliteration friendly place... winderful world of whetzel... all the new show info can be found there, along with vociferferous musings from the man himself...

i'll be changing this tribe to something different, and non-whetzel very soon, so if you have any pictures you want out of the album, take them... feel free to stick around.
